N.H.S. (National Honor Society)
Eligibility Requirements (to join):
Membership qualification requirements are set forth in the Preble High Chapter’s by-laws. These standards include:
1. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.500
2. Exemplary character (neither school nor civic offenses, nor other complaints) verified by check of records (i.e. referrals) and three teacher references.
3. Active participation in voluntary community service. Sophomore candidates must have 36 hours and Juniors 40 hours. Complete the “Verification of Volunteer Hours” form located in the Career Center. Volunteer hours must be approved and signed.
4. Leadership and participation in school activities. Sophomores must earn five points, Juniors six. For each year in a activity, the student earns one point and additional points are awarded for holding leadership positions within that activity. One point per year - per organization, sport, etc. One additional point for captain, lead role in play, and varsity letter.
All of the above must be completed by the set date when the “National Honor Society Activity Information Form” is given to the eligible student in February.
Description:
The National Honor Society (NHS) was founded in 1921 to create an organization that would recognize and encourage academic achievement while developing other characteristics essential to citizens in a democracy.
Yearly Requirements (once a member):
Attend all monthly meetings. Participate in NHS activities/ events throughout the year (minimum three). Log/Document 25 hours of volunteering each year. Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above each semester.
Procedures for Joining:
Students must complete the application packet within the time frame provided during their 10 or 11th grade year. Students must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA to receive the packet. If interested email Mr. Bader [email protected] Register on Online Registration and complete the information required.
