Orange Shirt Day
September 30th is "Orange Shirt Day"- Orange Shirts are worn annually on September 30th to remember First Nations (Native American) children. These children were dishonestly taken from their homes and sent to residential and boarding schools miles away for long periods of time without contact with their families. Orange shirts are also worn to honor the journey of healing from the traumas of Indian Boarding Schools. The traumas experienced by thousands of First Nations children during this time still heavily impact First Nations people today.
If you see a staff member wearing an Orange Shirt, please thank them for acknowledging and supporting First Nations students, their families, and Native American staff.
