Today’s Fun Fact: Tornadoes can cause "fish rain." Tornadoes can develop over water just as well as they can over land. When they do, they're called "waterspouts," and they suck up large amounts of lake or sea water—as well as whatever's swimming in that water. If the waterspout travels on to the land and the winds decrease, there's nowhere for those fish to go but down. As far as we know, there's no tornado powerful enough to pick up sharks, but a fish-nado is entirely possible.

Orange Shirt Day: Sept 30th, Orange Shirt Day is recognized by First Nations around the world about the impact of Residential Schools. In Wisconsin, there were 12 boarding schools that attempted to assimilate First Nations children from the 1800s until the 1930s (and longer). First Nations children were taken from their families and sent to residential schools to live. They were forced to cut their hair, speak only English, and wear specific clothes or face abuse. Orange Shirt Day provides a day of healing, where survivors can be reaffirmed that they matter, and so do all those that have been affected. Wearing an orange shirt on September 30th is one way to let our First Nations students and communities know that they matter! Submitted by Wanda Anton-First Nations Cultural Specialist
