Today’s Fun Fact: The Barbie doll’s full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts, from Willows, Wisconsin. Barbie was named after Ruth Handler's daughter, Barbara, and Ken after her son, Kenneth. Her birthday is March 9, 1959, when she was first displayed at the New York Toy Fair.

  1. Academic Decathlon:  If you see Samantha Hoefs, Adam Brunner, Kylee Dorner, Sean O’Leary, Marissa Blazer, Ian Hoppe, Kova Bronander, Payton Wartenburg, or Abbey Mommaerts, be sure to congratulate them on being this year’s Academic Decathlon regional champs!  During last week’s competition, the team won a total of 28 ribbons as they edged out East.  A special congratulations to Sean O’Leary for taking 3rd place overall in the varsity division, Sam Hoefs for taking 2nd place overall in the honors division, and Ian Hoppe for taking 1st place overall in the varsity division.  And finally, an extra special congratulations to Kylee Dorner for setting a school record with her essay score and to Ian Hoppe for winning a 1st or 2nd ribbon in all 10 of the competition events, a school first.  The team will compete at state in March.

  2. DECA:  Are you looking for a sweet treat to help you get through finals? Then you’re in luck! Tomorrow and Thursday Preble DECA will be teaming up with Gamma’s Sweet Treats to sell cookies, muffins, cupcakes, hot chocolate, and more delicious snacks! Treats will be sold outside the school store before school for $1 - $4. 


There will also be a giveaway snack package!     All you have to do to enter is follow Gamma’s Sweet Treats on Instagram @gmasweetreats


If you can’t make it Tomorrow or Thursday, Gamma’s Sweet Treats will also provide an online ordering system just for Preble students for delivery or pick up on these days. Just visit https://www.gammasweetreats.com to make your order!

  1. Dodgeball Tournament: Preble High School will be hosting a dodgeball tournament from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Thursday, January 13th. 


Get a team together (7-10 players, but only 7 can play in each game) and have only the "team captain" complete this Google Form found here:  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd0Nn5ygBaPYyNWIhkymkK367vQQQv0HqaGc2z_6PS3HyMhFQ/viewform?usp=sf_link


Forms must be submitted by 3:00 pm on Wednesday, January 12th.


Team names and clothing must be school appropriate.

  1. Dungeons and Dragons Club:  We will be meeting tonight ro 3:15 - 5:30 in room 132.

  2. E-Sports Club:  “Rise and shine, Mr. Freeman. Rise and shine.” Good morning Preble gaming community! The Preble E-Sports Club will be having another meeting after school on Thursday, January 20  in room 153. This is a meeting for all who are interested in being a part of a competitive team here at Preble. If you cannot attend this meeting, please contact Mr. Konwinski or one of our Preble E-Sports social media accounts. Also please keep an eye on Google Classroom this week, our classroom code is ts5ybqw. Although we are gearing toward competitive gaming, casual gamers are still welcome. We hope to see you there!

  3. Language Arts Academic Team:  The Language Arts Academic Team will begin meeting regularly starting second semester.  It is not too late to join!  Meetings take place Wednesdays after school for approximately 30 mins.  Join the Google Classroom to stay up to date on meetings, announcements, and the big competition!  Class code to join the Google Classroom is sjioos2 

  4. Spring Play:  Students interested in our very Shakespearean Spring Play, we will be having an introduction meeting on Wednesday, January 19th from 3:10-3:40 in room 123. We will be overviewing our audition process as well as discuss the show and answer all questions. We do ask that if you are interested - please attend the meeting. The play is open to ALL students regardless of experience. Please see Mr. Schuh if you have any questions.

  5. Talent Show:  Preble’s Got Talent! is on Friday February 11th.  To be in the show you MUST give a sample of your act during one of the audition times on Wednesday, January 26th, Monday, January 31st or Wednesday, February 2nd from 3:10 to 3:50 pm in the Auditorium.


Please make sure to sign up for a time at the Career Center table in the LMC (by Ms. Lor’s desk).


ALL appropriate acts will be included in the show – there are NO CUTS

  1. Track and Field:  Now is the time to begin to get ready for the track and field season.  Opportunities available for improvement include speed workouts which occur every Tuesday and Friday (not this Friday due to final exams) in the big gym following school.


Also, distance runners are encouraged to begin to put on the mileage.  Winter Running Club meets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  It is paused this week due to final exams, but will pick up again next Wednesday.


Our preseason track and field will be held in early February.
