Nancy (Cieslewicz) Strong (Class of 1978); Nancy participated and lettered in the sports of volleyball, basketball and track and field.  She excelled at basketball where she received 2nd team All Valley in 1978 as well as first team All Metro Press Gazette.  For her accomplishments she received the Peter G. Hamel outstanding Female Athlete of the Year in 1978.  Nancy competed collegiately in basketball at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay where she played in 105 out of 122 games and scored 577 points.  She coached both volleyball and basketball at Preble in the late 70’s and early 80’s and has proudly worked in the Green Bay School District for 30+ years.  She is married to Jim Strong and has two children: Andrew and Emily. 

 

Gene Hall (1958-1990) Gene spent 32 years at Preble High School as a teacher, coach and Athletic Director.  Gene was a member of the 1946 East Green Bay Championship basketball team.  He served in the Army at Fort Sheridan and played basketball while in the Army.  He attended La Crosse State Teachers College where he participated in football.  While at Preble he coached the sports of baseball (first baseball coach at Preble), basketball, football and volleyball.  Gene once stated that his “most challenging job was driving the very old Preble bus to games.  Gene passed away on April 21, 2018 and is survived by his wife Mary Lynn and two children; daughter Dr. Lisa Mahaffey and son Dan. 

 

Roger Heesacker (Class of 1959)  Roger participated and lettered in the sports of football, basketball and track and field. He was a first team All-Conference Defensive player in the N.E.W. conference in 1958.  Roger began coaching in 1964 and coached football, basketball, baseball and track and field at the middle and high school levels at various schools including St. Joseph Grade School, St. Phillips, Edison Jr. High, Red Smith and Preble High School.  Roger has officiated the sports of football, basketball, baseball and softball since 1963.  He was the 1978 Umpire of the Year as awarded by the Wisconsin High School Coaches Association.  He served as the President of the Green Bay Officials Association from 1983-1985.  He was awarded the 1988 Green Bay Packing Red Smith Sports Award.  Roger was inducted into the Green Bay Officials Association Hall of Fame on October 23, 2010.  Roger is married to Sandy and has four children; Darren, Craig, Rob and Stacy. 

 

Paul Noel (Class of 1962)  Paul participated and lettered in the sports of football, basketball and baseball.  Paul was an All-State Honorable mention recipient in football in 1962 (Junior) and 1963(Senior).  As well he was on the Green Bay Metro All-Star team in 1962 and 1963.  Paul competed collegiately at Ripon College in the sports of football, basketball and baseball accumulating 8 varsity letters in college. For his efforts he received the Little All-American Honorable mention award in football his Senior year (1965).  Paul was inducted into the Ripon College Hall of Fame in 2006. Upon completion of college Paul received a free-agent offer to play professionally with the Houston Oilers in 1966 but declined the offer.  Paul owned and operated a successful Independent Insurance Agency in New London that is currently owned by his son Douglas.  Paul is married to Marge and has 3 children; Douglas, Kristin and Karrie. 

 

David Vanden Avond (Class of 2003)  David participated in and lettered in the sports of football, wrestling and baseball.  He was a member of the teams in 2001 and 2002 that went undefeated in the FRVC in football and were Conference Champions.  David was a member of the 2002 baseball team that qualified for the WIAA State Tournament.  For his efforts in baseball he was named a 1st Team All-Conference infielder in 2003, All-District Honorable mention Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association and Press Gazette 2nd Team All-Area.  David was a member of the 2003 wrestling team that won the FRVC Conference title.  In wrestling he was a multiple year (2001, 2002, 2003) 1st Team All-Conference recipient, 2003 WIAA Regional and Sectional champion and took 2nd place at the WIAA State Individual Wrestling meet at 140 pounds.  David was awarded the John David Most Valuable Male Athlete at Preble High School in 2003.  David went on to wrestle at UW-Milwaukee where he received All-American honors in the NWCA in 2006.  David, along with his family, proudly helped build the football stadium entrance, one of three generations of the Vanden Avond family that helped design and build the Drankoff-Prochnow sign within the stadium.  David graduated from UW-Milwaukee with a BS in Architecture and is a licensed Architect in the State of Wisconsin.  David is married to Heidi and has four children; Rudy, Austin, Skyla and Finn.
